Our Story
Located minutes from downtown Boston and Cambridge, Labshares operates a state-of-the-art, 44,000ft² BSL-2 facility and provides fully equipped shared and private lab spaces. We are specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of emerging biotech companies. Designed to meet the unique needs of emerging biotech companies, Labshares provides much more than just space: Members have access to world-class equipment, the support of our expert team, and a community of innovative emerging companies.

Meet Our Team

David Baxley (Dave) is Vice President of Operations at Labshares. Dave manages short and long term planning for equipment acquisition, regulatory compliance, and day to day operations. He is also our Chemical Hygiene Officer and Emergency Coordinator.
Dave is a retired US Naval Officer and has a deep background in safety, equipment operation and maintenance, and budgetary planning.
Dave’s hobbies include fishing and golf.

Philip Borden is the CEO of Labshares. Prior to acquiring Labshares in 2023, Philip spent 25 years as a venture capitalist at Frazier Healthcare and as a healthcare-focused private equity investor at Riverside Partners. Over his career, he’s backed dozens of emerging life science companies, including a majority control investment in BioAgilytix and many other successful businesses. Philip earned his BS in cell and molecular biology from Duke University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Outside of Labshares, Philip is an avid street photographer and serves as president of the Boston Camera Club. He lives in Harvard Square with his wife Catherine and their rambunctious vizsla, Winona

As the VP of Financial Operations at Labshares, Jackie Cerami is a pivotal force in overseeing the company’s financial workflows and ensuring operational efficiency. In addition, Jackie spearheads contract renewals, ensuring that all agreements with Labshares’ members are up-to-date and beneficial.
Prior to Labshares Jackie worked at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, where she started in Talent Acquisition and transitioned to their Travel and Expense Manager. This experience has equipped her with a well-rounded skill set and a keen understanding of both financial and operational dynamics.
Outside of her professional life, Jackie spends time with her husband, Ross, and their miniature poodle, Benson.


Barry Lawton, the Vice President of Technology and one of the site directors for Labshares, holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Hobart College. Before joining Labshares, Barry managed technology at the New England Research Institutes (NERI) where he led several transformative projects, including revising business processes, transitioning systems to support clinical trials, and overseeing a significant buildout and relocation. Prior to his tenure at NERI, Barry played a crucial role in the growth of The Telluride Group, which ultimately led to its successful acquisition by Mindshift Technologies.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Barry resides on the north shore, raising four children with his wife, Leslie. During the summer, he goes lobstering on Boston Harbor, oversees a youth sailing program, and participates in competitive sailing. In the winter, his family enjoys hiking and skiing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Emma leads marketing, events, and community initiatives to drive pipeline growth and brand visibility. She partners with the CEO and Director of Business Development on customer acquisition and strategic growth planning. Emma also builds relationships across the biotech ecosystem to elevate Labshares’ presence in the life sciences industry. Emma holds a BS in neuroscience from UMass Amherst and enjoys skiing, golfing, and discovering new restaurants in her free time.

Erik serves as the Director of Business Development at Labshares, where his main responsibilities include driving growth and expansion for the Labshares ecosystem. Before joining the Labshares team, Erik gained experience in the Biotech industry as an Account Manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific, helping research and development companies achieve their scientific goals. Erik earned his BS in Biochemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara and enjoys driving, snowboarding, tennis, and the Raiders

Philip aims to build on Labshares' legacy as the premier provider of shared laboratory solutions. Labshares' founder, Jeff Behrens, continues his involvement and support of the company as a member of the Board of Directors
